India’s Tata Motors Ltd. unveiled the long awaited Nano today, the cheapest car in the world, costing a mere $2,500 USD or 100,00 rupees in India. The owner of Tata Motors, Mr. Tata hopes to make car owning more affordable for Indian families through the release of the Nano. Called the “people’s car”, he hopes that families that once transported families of four on scooters will choose to use the Nano to safely navigate through Indian cities. Tata Motors Ltd. is focusing on India at the moment, and will consider expanding to global markets if the car does well.
The specs: The car is a four-seater with a 625 cc, two-cylinder engine. And best of all, it gets 50 miles per gallon.
